Phil Gaudreau is the Communications Officer for Algonquin College based in Ottawa, Canada, and is responsible for media relations on behalf of the College and its Ottawa campus, internal communications, and elements of government relations, social media, public speaking, advertising, photography, emergency management, and website design. In this role, Phil devises communication plans, conducts media outreach, and provides marketing and PR support including presentations to classes and employees.
Phil has participated in multiple charitable initiatives at the College, including Algonquin College’s winning 2012-13 Spread the Net Student Challenge campaign in which Phil led the communications strategy. For their efforts, the employees who assisted with the campaign, including Phil, won a 2013 Algonquin College Team Award.
Prior to his time at Algonquin College, Phil worked for two and a half years at Ottawa's News Talk Radio 580 CFRA. He has experience as a News and Business Anchor, Reporter, Talk Show Host, and Producer. Phil was one of the youngest talk show hosts to ever co-host a show on CFRA, and he contributed to multiple programs including Madely in the Morning and Rob Snow’s Afternoon Edition. Phil broke the story which led to CFRA receiving the 2011 Edward R. Murrow Award for Continuing Coverage.
Phil is a graduate of the Algonquin College Radio Broadcasting program. As a student, Phil launched two radio talk shows – one of which was later syndicated by 580 CFRA. He co-hosted and produced Talknowledgy for two and a half years as a radio show, podcast, and social media and technology blog. Phil received the 2011 Radio Broadcasting program ‘Best Newscast’ award.
Phil is a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society, where he regularly participates in professional development events relating to media relations, social media, and communications strategy. He is a Director for the Ottawa-Gatineau chapter for 2013-15. Phil is also a member of IABC Ottawa.
